twt.fm & how to stay on top of Web Music Technology

These days our bandwidth can be so low from working and maintaining relationships with family and friends how do you keep up with the latest and greatest? Easy; use Twitter to follow the people that actually create the technology. That brings us to Lee Martin; he takes care of Them Crooked Vultures and Beck’s Web needs, and he is also a developer within the Web Music Technology community. I am a little late on being completely blown away by his Twitter app to stream music twt.fm. To be exact I am up and over 1.7m users late!

Within maybe 30mins I had uploaded links to 3 songs of my band Life Love Misery, including links to purchase from iTunes and it was played almost 200 times. Imagine if you band is popular; watch your bandwidth! Once you log in and start an account this is what your twt.fm page looks like.

This app enables you to find certain song streams from a currently unknown source and Tweet to your friends, or you can upload links to mp3s, YouTube videos, and Soundcloud song files.

An advantage to using twt.fm is you can only stream the file, you cannot download it as far as I can tell. A good attribute for those whom do not want to just give away their music downloads for free.

You ask, “well how to I keep track of find these talented developers that are hacking the future of Web Music Technology?” I suggest keeping tabs on this Website and following those whom attend the “Music Hack-days events” that are organized by Soundcloud.com’s own David Haynes.

Another good example of finding a gem of an app or “hack-of” is included on this list. Which one do you think is a gem? Which one is bound to not fade away with the constant 6-month technology tide that washes away someones great idea? Well, I’ll be hacking away at my fav and I will debut my case-use of this hack very soon. Stay tuned to 5thbeatle.net!

Google Buzz Gets Privacy Patch

Ok, so Google Buzz got a privacy patch? And what was that? Turning it off? Hmmm. Here is an interesting article from CNET about turning it off successfully. Myself I have, for now turned it off, as it is an overload as this specific moment. But I do wonder how this new “Buzz” can be used successfully to engage fans within a Social Media campaign for music. Join the 5thBeatle.net Facebook Fan Page and I’d love to hear what some of you think of how the new Google Buzz may play into Web Music Technology in 2010.

Crowdsource to get things done for $0 and engage fans

I am feeling so industrious today. HA. Ok so it’s a lazy day and I’m on Twitter and I see Island Records, home of many of your and mine favorite recording artist over the years…and behold look what I see:

We are looking for a new twitter background & u can design it! http://www.islanddefjam.com/artist/news_single.aspx?nid=5922&artistID=7386

Pretty cool idea to get fans engaged and also get something done! So say if your in a band, and you have little time and/or inclination to get into making your Twitter background look professional… Get your fans to do it!

Google, Myspace, and Collecta; 2010 the year real-time search takes off

A new exciting year is upon us! Many are still absorbing the news of Imeem going down, and the few possibly..or real reasons why. For those of us in the know, it is surprising to hear what really brought Imeem down, then again maybe not too surprising. Anyways…

Onto bigger news that improves things for musicians and fans a like is the Google and Myspace deals going down lately.

Status Updates

Google works Myspace status updates into their real-time search capabilities. Oh this is so “last month” as far as news, but a really big deal for the landscape of 2010. I’m gathering the deal is you can get real time results of *status updates* from Myspace, Twitter, and soon Facebook Fan Pages, via Google.

To check this out in action, simply:

1) Go to Google
2) Below the search box click on ” + Show Options ”
3) On left hand navigation go down and click “Latest”
4) Bingo you will see real-time data start to scroll down the page
5) This is the future!

What does this mean to you the musician or band that wants to have presence on the Web?
Update your status’s! ; no matter the consensus on how “cool” Myspace is. You must still have some sort of presence there and update it, maybe even daily!

Or if you want a more thorough and even easier way to view what is going on in the Myspace-sphere right now you have to check out Collecta’s real-time Myspace search interface.

Instead of *just* status updates. This arrangement drafted by Myspace and Collecta enables users to search for sentiment / key words in Blogs, Comments *and* status updates!

Myspace is wheeling and dealin’, so be sure to include it your daily routine of Web and Social Media Presence for Music Marketing and Fan Engagement. Tell your fans about Real-time search at Collecta and Google. When people ask you where your from, say ” I’m from allova’ “

Todd Rundgren West Coast AWATS Tour

HOT NEWS – Thanks to PRThatRocks I got a short gig helping out with the Social Media campaign for the upcoming Todd Rundgren West Coast AWATS Tour. Check it out; he will be performing the entire classic album “A Wizard A Star” live with Jesse Gress, Kasim Sulton, Prairie Prince, Greg Hawkes, Ralph Schuckett, and Bobby Strickland!!

PRThatRocks, with some consulting from yours truly will be executing a Social Media campaign around, Facebook, Myspace/iLike, and Twitter to help spread the word about these highly anticipated performances.

One main job was to author and Official Fan Page for Facebook and help migrate some fans from his personal profile over to the new page, that is sure to increase in fans numbers very quickly. Also to consult/assist the management in grabbing the vanity url. Be sure to join it at Facebook!

Stay tuned, just getting started.

Cash Music doing good

Sometimes time just breezes by and you see things go across your Web sphere with the speed of light. Not always having time to absorb the many cool things going on in Web Music Technology and to reach out to cool people doing cool things. Today I took a time out and found some good stuff mang’.

Cash Music. A non-profit organization doing some really sharp Web presentations and marketing for music ; take heed to *up to date* techniques being rendered. Take a look at the impressive list of projects on their Website at the link above.

Note a couple great examples:

50 Foot Wave
One page minimalist approach like a MUX Tape, or 8 Tracks page. Futuristic, forward thinking. I should do this
Nice big artsy graphic
One button play
One button FREE download
Link to buy from AMAZON
Link to donate through Paypal

Family of the Year
Again, excellent execution here, note upper left corner under “Find Us Elsewhere,” adhering to my “triangle” concept of 1) Main band Website 2) Facebook 3) Twitter, and including Myspace in the secondary “triangle” of Fan Outreach or Social Media wrangling.

Man, I should practice what I preach to the minimalist level ! Effective use of Web Technology and Social Media tools here, with minimal distractions. It’s all about *The Music*.

Hats off to Cash Music!

DigaBand enters Saas Social Media Music Dashboard space

Hmmm another new Social Media Dashboard enters the scene? Nifty. www.DigaBand.com . I’m going to put this in my “widegets” category as I simply do not have a “Dashboard” category. A dashboard let’s you control your status updates and say, similar to the likes of ReverbNation or iLike.com, an array of widgets can be deployed/updated/controlled/tracked. With yesterday’s implementation of the iLike.com Artist Dashboard and fan, music player, analytics into Myspace, the Web Music Technology / Social Networking space is getting very interesting. Who will be king?

From the description on the Alpha site, regarding the Beta launch, it seems to be just that, a Dashboard “+” other perks, such as the value add of networking with other “indie” bands “with less than 1000 fans” … ya know, the ol’ “team up with other bands” thing. Share fans, put on a show, sell stuff, drink beer with your combined fandom assets. Great article on TechCrunch this morning.

I have not got into the program yet, and I’m kinda guessing it’s a Dashboard play… but I can say perfect timing to enter the space. Good luck guys, can’t wait to tinker with the new diggs! Ok, gotta gig, gotta go!

The Twitter “Artist List”

Hello kitties! Ok, so 5thbeatle.net is just some good pointers for band, brand, artists that are not too “geeky” and are somewhat “beginner” or “intermediate” Social Media / Web Music technology users. And of course I/me/we are available for hire to execute such goodness.

I’m busy working with a band called “Lotus Ascension” on all of their Social Media sites, so I will keep this short and sweet. Also just picked up local do-gooders “The Hold Outs”.

If you are not on this list yet, you should simply sign up, it will propagate your Web presence on Twitter. You will get some spam, you will get other bands following you, and other excitement will surely happen.

Follow Gabriel Nijmeh, the author of the list, and go here http://tra.kz/v to add yourself, or your band to the list.

Happy Tweetin’ Tweeters!

See how the Rockstars tweet.

Hello, just a quick post in the Twitter category. Mashable always has great articles about Social Media.

Here is a great article that can demonstrate for newby to beginning Tweeters on how other musicians use Twitter. Take note of and follow @amandapalmer , @trent_reznor, and say …@zoecello & @sivers, and then pick another 10 artists and watch what they do over a weeks period of time. Maybe this will help you find your “Tweet voice”.
