Music PR, Music Marketing Public Relations
PR? You mean public relations? You thought print was dead? Or print ad media is dying? Again let’s let the “experts” joust on this subject and just embrace the fact that we need some help. We just wanna rock right? We are musicians low on the scrilla and we do most of this crap by ourselves or we have a small budget and we hire people to get the job done. We have online PR and we have Print PR.
The fact of the matter is that you are an egomaniac. You and your band. You and your record company. You and your new clothing / accessory fashion line. You want a feature article written about you. You want to be blogged about. You want more authentic fans, to engage, impress, and to reach out to, and to identify with you and your songs, your fashion, your lifestyle.
We ultimately want a direct fan relationship. Wouldn’t it be cool to skip iTunes? To sell directly to your fans? keep all the money! That’s why within a professional Social Media Marketing for Music campaign, we must have the players in place a good 3-4 months before your “street date.” Yes, yes, I know, I know, some say the album is dead and the release date is something the “labels” used to do, but the tried and true ecosystem that revolves around your touring and your regional fans that you want to show up to your shows so you can sell *directly to them* … that ecosystem is still in place. The local free paper magazines, including the club listings, the CD reviews, and the feature articles. The talents buyers at the nearest State University still operate the same. Need I go on? There is still a traditional ecosystem in place; you need good PR to get that exposure; you need good College Radio promotion to get those stations spinnin’ your tunes. You need an online PR firm to get MP3 Music Bloggers your stuff with their recommendations.
